After graduating from
Andrews High School
in 1975, I went on to pursue a degree from Western Carolina University. In
1978, I graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration,
with a concentration in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. After a year in
Hickory as a police officer, I joined the North Carolina Highway Patrol in 1980
where I served as a Master Trooper until 2002.
For over three decades, I have strived to be a very active contributor to this
community. Some of my most active positions included a Fundraising Chairperson
for the local Boy Scouts, a Youth Leader for Marble Springs Baptist Church,
President of the Andrews Elementary PTA, and a Board Member for the Cherokee
County Board of Education. Now I serve as the treasurer for H.A.V.E.N. Child
Advocacy Center and a member of the N.C. Highway Patrol Members Assistance Team.
During my first campaign for the Sheriff's Office, I promised to enhance public
confidence and involvement with the Sheriff’s Office by taking a firm stance
against drugs, violent crimes and crimes against children and the elderly. The
Sheriff’s Office oversees two award-winning programs in drug enforcement and
victim services, which continue to help fight these crimes each day. My second
campaign promised enhanced partnerships with other county agencies, Cherokee
County Schools, and the communities. Trained officers have taken emerging
issues, such as Internet Crimes Against Children, cyber crimes, drugs and gangs
and conducted trainings throughout our school campuses and surrounding
communities to help strengthen all citizens with information, awareness and
available resources. We have worked with the Senior Center to create Safer
Senior, a program to provide a seamless and comprehensive response to our older
citizens. If re-elected, our new ventures will include enhancement to all of
our current programs, as well as more structured programs with Cherokee County
Schools.
As a certified law enforcement officer, I want to bring to bear over 30 years of
law enforcement experience and community involvement toward the betterment of
our county.
Sincerely,
